DR. BRYANT ORLAND BAKER JR.
December 28, 1930 - October 1, 2019
Dr. Bryant Orland Baker, Jr. was born in San Marcos, Texas on December 28, 1930, the only child of Dr. Bryant Orland Baker, Sr. and Esther Sue Cavitt. Known as Orland throughout his life, he spent his childhood in various towns where his father taught math and practiced medicine. In his high school years he attended Adamson High School in Oak Cliff. He attended University of North Texas and Southwestern Medical School, receiving his M.D. in 1955. With his post doctoral work performed at Parkland Hospital, he earned his Board Qualification in Internal Medicine. He served in the United States Air Force from 1959-1961. He is survived by his devoted wife, Virginia Truesdale Baker, daughter Susan, sons, Bryan and Clint and their spouses, Steve, Eileen, and Marcia. Also, their grandchildren Kevin, Marcus, Linda, and Dawson. Throughout his medical practice, Orland was committed to the care of his patients. He was calm, thoughtful, and a good listener. Besides working the hours required as a medical doctor, he made time to be involved with family activities including backpacking, canoeing, and assisting Virginia with her wildlife rehabilitation. He enjoyed seeing new places including his most recent trip in January to Antarctica. Some of his other pastimes were playing piano, enjoying classical music, woodworking, raising quail, recording bluebird activity at the Baker family farm, and many more. Whatever he put his mind to, he achieved. He was a Renaissance man in his own right. A memorial service will be held at The Villages of Dallas, 550 E Ann Arbor Ave, Dallas, Texas at 10:30am Oct 4, 2019. The family is grateful to all of the care givers and friends who have helped us through this transition. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice.
