VERDA HUNT DAVIS

September 26, 1946 - July 19, 2020

All Social Distancing will be observed * Masks are not optional they will need to be worn * Verda “Vert” Davis was born September 26, 1946, in San Augustine, TX, to late parents, Robert Hunt, Sr., and Ella (Barnes) Hunt. She attended Lincoln High School in St. Augustine, where she graduated in 1965. After graduation in 1965, Verda moved to Dallas, TX, and attended Bishop College, where she majored in History and Integrated Social Studies. She graduated from Bishop College in 1969, earning her B.S. Degree. The most highlighted Achievement by Verda was Master’s Degree in Counseling from Prairie View A&M University. She started her classroom teaching career, and taught for many years, at Wilmer-Hutchins, I.S.D. She continued and ended her career at Sunset High School, and her last employment was at W.W. Samuel High School, where she served as school counselor until retirement in 2008, totaling 37 years of service in education. Verda joined Leath St. Baptist Church, Dallas, TX, in November 1979, where she was a loyal and faithful member until her passing. She served in many capacities there, most recently as church musician for the male chorus. She joined the Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated and served in numerous positions for 40 years at the Grand and local levels. She leaves to celebrate her homegoing: her husband of 49 years, Samuel Davis; her brothers, Robert Hunt, Jr., and Clo V. Hunt of Houston, TX; sisters, Thettie Murphy, Marjorie Bluford of Houston, TX, and Girtha Hunt of Dallas, TX; and a host of loving and caring nieces, nephews, and their families.
